Hurricanes of Hope uses a Guatemalan tradition of storytelling to tackle environmental waste and pollution and health issues. The story follows the lives of three families in a community where the main river is dangerously contaminated, and disease control and prevention are among the main concerns and challenges. The program was developed by community members in two regions of Guatemala and broadcast both in Spanish and Mayan Queqchi.
Audio sample: A member of the community returns to educate and advise the village on water contamination and its relation to the mysterious illnesses in their town (episode 8).

What's Up with Your Life? educates adolescents and youth ages 12-18 on issues that are often neglected or seen as taboo in society such as health, sexual awareness, and discrimination.
Audio sample: Blanca receives support by her friends after being raped. They encourage her to report the crime to the authorities and to undertake a medical exam and counseling (episode15).

Ushikwapo Shikamana is a radio show that was produced in Kenya for an urban and rural audience. It covered a range of issues, including: HIV/AIDS, Women's Rights, Sexual & Reproductive Health, Family Equity, Community action, Teen Pregnancy, Female Circumcision, Family Planning. The show was consistently rated the number one drama program on KBC’s Kiswahili radio during its 6 year run and in 2001 received the Population Institute’s Global Media Award for best radio drama.

INDIA: Taru

The showed featured the experiences of Taru and the other characters, as they struggle with the challenges in their fictional lives, serving as behavioral models for the millions of listeners who tuned in weekly. The show covered social issues important to the underserved population in this poor province of over 100 million people. The issues covered by the show were: Sexual and Reproductive Health, Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV/AIDS, Gender Equality, Education and Literacy, Substance Abuse and Domestic Violence, Rights, Inter-caste Harmony.

LATIN AMERICA : 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence

In the winter of 2006 PCI released four dramatic radio public service announcements in support of “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence,” a multi-media campaign organized by a coalition of United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working for women’s rights in the region.
The public service announcements (PSAs) aired on radio stations across Latin America and the Caribbean from November 25 to December 10. PCI joined with governments, women activists, journalists, UN agencies, and NGOs throughout the region in calling for an end to all forms of violence against women. The “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence” campaign amounts to a public plea for greater prevention efforts, support services, legal and judicial reform, and the use international human rights law to address violence against women.

Ombligos al Sol is a radio drama that was produced by and for youth in Mexico City . The series aims to promote dialogue on a range of issues and challenges faced by young people such as drug abuse, domestic violence, adolescent pregnancy, sexuality and HIV/AIDS.
Audio sample: Young parents face challenges in their relationship and in the raising their baby. Meanwhile, Virginia is in an abusive relationship with her jealous boyfriend (episode 79).

PERU: Empezando a Vivir (Beginning to Live)

Empezando a Vivir is a radio drama for adolescents and youth about reproductive and sexual health, including the prevention of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections, and the importance of family communication. The coming-of-age story centers around a group of teens at a high school in the fictional city of Sol as they navigate relationships with friends, first loves, and parents. The drama was originally broadcast during the magazine format show En Buena Onda in Lima , Peru , in 2005-2006 and was rebroadcast on 13 stations throughout Peru .
Audio sample: When Olga, a 15 year-old girl, is expelled from school because she is pregnant, members of the community rally to her defense and ask the school to respect her right to an education (episode 4).

PERU: Loma Luna: Tierra de Pasiones (Moonscapes: Land of Passion)

Through characters and intertwining storylines, Loma Luna demonstrates the diverse attitudes and conflicts that Peruvians face in regards to sexuality, health, HIV/AIDS, and the environment. The drama follows Franco and Aurora as they reconnect twenty years after they first fell in love as teenagers in the city of Loma Luna . Can their love survive, or will Aurora ’s secret turn him away? This 52-episode drama aimed at men and women 15-45 years old was originally broadcast in Lima and was later rebroadcast throughout Peru .
Audio sample: Aurora struggles to deal with the recent discovery that she is HIV positive. Meanwhile parents realize the joy of having a child and forming a family (episode 16).
