Mónica en busca de amor
(Monica In Search of Love)

Our Spanish-language comic book, Mónica en busca de amor (Monica in Search of Love) provides Latino teens in the Los Angeles area with information about some common risks that adolescents face, including dating violence, early pregnancy, and STDs. Published in collaboration with a group of Latino teenagers and Gregory Molina, an educator in the Los Angeles Unified School District, the comic reflects life for Spanish-speaking youth in some of the city's most difficult neighborhoods. It has been distributed extensively in Southern California by health and social agencies.

Ushikwapo Shikamana (If Assisted, Assist Yourself)

Our Kenyan radio show was supported by two complementary activities–weekly comic strips that appeared in the most widely read Kiswahili newspaper, Taifa Leo, and the adaptation of these strips into a full-color comic book for use in a diverse range of educational settings. The use of comic strips ran from 1999 to 2003. The print medium supported the radio drama but also offered audience members who may not listen to the serial to follow the story. Distribution of the comic books was done through bookstores; adult literacy programs; youth, women’s, and church groups; and other outlets in Kenya .
