PCI-Media Impact Chairperson Victoria A. Staebler comments on The New Yorker Magazine article

An Open Letter from Victoria A. Staebler, Board Chair, PCI-Media Impact:

June 1, 2006 - Writer Hanna Rosin's piece titled "Life Lessons" in the June 5th, 2006 edition of The New Yorker Magazine includes a succinct profile of the work of PCI, which is now called PCI-Media Impact. (Click here to view article) We are delighted that a journal of The New Yorker's stature has turned its gaze on the increasing relevance and power of broadcast entertainment to promote family health, stable communities, and a sustainable environment in developing countries of the world. As The New Yorker indicates, each broadcast is written, produced and performed by the creative talent in the countries in which the stories take place. The New Yorker also quotes examples of PCI-Media Impact sponsored studies that show direct links between these broadcasts and positive, societal changes like increased use of health products and the increased attendance of girls in school. As PCI-Media Impact's Chairperson since 2003, I am pleased to see more and more reports that recognize how our work is having an impact. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. As PCI-Media Impact expands its mission in the 21st century, including our new partnerships and broadcasts in Latin America and Asia , we look forward to further utilizing the remarkable potential of television and radio, and serial dramas in particular, to help the less fortunate by "Telling Stories, Saving Lives."
