Board Profile: Vicki Staebler

This past November, PCI’s board of directors met in New York to discuss, among other things, the selection of a new board chair. Vicki Staebler, Vice-President and Senior Client Advisor for PNC Advisors in Boston, has replaced Kenneth L. Henderson as PCI’s new chair. Ms. Staebler brings to PCI years of experience in the financial world and a long-standing commitment to reproductive rights and gender equality issues.

At PNC Advisors, Ms. Staebler manages a hectic schedule working with successful families and high net-worth individuals to coordinate their wealth management issues. It’s a job she loves. She’s a numbers person, you see, and her business skills combined with her passion for results are the reasons why she was attracted to PCI in the first place.

“I was struck by the refreshingly creative approach PCI was taking in order to communicate powerful messages that have a long-term impact on people’s lives and on improving public health,” she said. “I guess you could say I appreciated the leverage PCI was able to wield by using mass media to convey such a positive message to such a large number of people worldwide.”

Ms. Staebler’s belief in the need to reach people with positive messages stems from her personal belief in the necessity of a woman’s right to choose. She has been involved with organizations working on women’s health and reproductive rights issues for most of her adult life, beginning with Planned Parenthood of Northern New England. When Randy Rowland — then PCI’s board Treasurer — suggested that she consider taking a seat on PCI’s board, it wasn’t long before she joined up. Ms Staebler went on to become PCI’s Treasurer, a role she held for six years, before recently assuming the board chairmanship.

“I’m excited about PCI’s possibilities,” she said. “Right now I’m particularly excited about the possibilities for interesting collaborations with the for-profit world, in getting support from corporations and new foundations and in our ability to increase our individual donor base.” PCI welcomes Ms. Staebler and looks forward to her direction and to her continued success in the years to come.
