My Community - Latin America and Caribbean 2007-08
PCI's My
Community Initiative builds on our relationship with partners and
partner organizations throughout Mexico and Central and South
America. The initiative helps us develop new relationships
in the region and helps PCI create a formal network of mutually
supportive grass-roots organizations advocating for greater
rights and better health through the use of communications (to learn more about how My Community works and how to become involved click here.)
Through this initiative, PCI has partnered with many local groups in Latin America focusing on a range of health and poverty issues. In 2007-08, PCI will provide technical assistance to an additional 12 coalitions in Bolivia, Guatemala, Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Honduras, Nicaragua (see list of 2007 groups and their planned broadcast click here.)
Only 25% of the applicant coalitions who apply for entrance into the program’s initial Entertainment Education training seminars are selected to participate. After completing the 5-day training program, successful participants compete in a highly selective planning process of broadcast development and impact design.
Each of these projects is multifaceted and designed to address complex health and poverty issues from different perspectives. These groups understand that family planning, reproductive health, poverty and human rights are all intrinsically linked. The chart below shows the number of groups working in various issue areas:
